Embry-Riddle Robotics Laboratory

Partners - Industry and Academic

We are grately to the support and technical assistance to the following industrial partners. We are also building research collaboartions with University partners, here in the US and abroad.

Our lab currently has two industrial robotic arms and controllers from Denso robotics. As one of the world's largest automotive parts manufacturers, DENSO has been a leader and pioneer in manufacturing automation, including the design and manufacturing of industrial robot arms, since the 1960s. DENSO is also the world's largest user of small assembly robots, from four-axis SCARA robots to five- and six-axis articulated robots. More than 17,000 DENSO small industrial robots are employed in the company's own manufacturing facilities, and more than 42,000 additional DENSO small industrial robots are used by other companies worldwide.

SMC is the world's largest manufacturer of pneumatic automation products and has graciously donated grippers and pneumatic solenoids to support robotics education at Embry-Riddle.

Diamond Systems is a supplier of small form-factor rugged embedded PCs and I/O expansion modules. We use Diamond's Athena II PC104 and Hercules II EBX form factor single board computers for our mobile applications. Both have Integrated autocalibrating Data Acquisition modules running Linux.

VxWorks is the device software industry's leading RTOS, designed to be optimized, scalable, and robust. Its platform is augmented by a broad selection of complementary middleware that can greatly reduce software development time. The Wind River VxWorks platforms are backed by Wind River's 25 years of device software industry experience, world-class support, an extensive partner ecosystem, and specialized Wind River Professional Services.

We currently use VxWorks in our industrial robotics control applications and robotics courses. We are supported through their University Program.

QNX Software Systems is makers of middleware, development tools, realtime operating system software and services for superior embedded design. QNX Momentics provides a suite of productivity and analysis tools, all integrated into a single, Eclipse-based IDE. With value-added technology development kits and source kits, the QNX product portfolio enables rapid development of quality systems based on the QNX Neutrino RTOS.

We currently use their QNX Neutrino RTOS and QNX Momentics Tool Suite for both our embedded motor control applications and our host based data acquistion as part of our mechatronics and robotics course ware.

We are supported though the QNX-in-Education program.
